Library Services For Teachers And Classes

Quinte West Public Library offers a variety of services to teachers and their classes.  Please contact the library to book a class visit, to arrange a package of support material for classroom use, or for demonstrations of the library's online catalogue and its related services.

BOOK A CLASS VISIT!
Classes are invited to the library for visits throughout the year.  Most visits are between 1 and 1 ½ hours long and include a tour, stories and other activities, and for Grade 3 and under, a simple craft.  Older classes may do theme programs related to curriculum studies, such as Ancient Civilizations, Early Settlers or genre fiction booktalks.  We also offer fun programs at Christmas.   Programs are flexible and we are happy to discuss ways in which the Library can enhance your study of a particular subject.

Class visits must be booked at least three weeks in advance.  We are very busy during the school year, so book early to ensure your visit.

BOOK BUNDLES
Requests for books that contain certain materials can be made with the Children's library staff.  Teachers can fill a request form indicating the topic, the number of books required to supply the class, the grade level, and the date the bundle will be needed.  We ask that book bundle requests be submitted one week prior to pick up.  Teachers are reminded that they are responsible for all fines or losses.

BUCKET OF BOOKS
Teachers may also request a selection of picture books, easy read/first novels, or juvenile fiction to supplement classroom collections.  We will choose 20 titles for you for each 3 week loan period.  You may receive a Bucket occasionally or regularly throughout the school year.

ASSIGNMENT ALERT
Are you tired of hearing, "I couldn't find anything!" Help us change that to "I found lots of information!"  Contact the Library before you give an assignment.  We can then set up a reserve shelf of appropriate material and information on the subject for students to use at the Library.  We will also provide a short list of websites on the subject.

LITERACY NIGHT
Children's Department  are also available to speak at your school's special events, such as Family Literacy Day.  There are only two of us, so book early!
