1.  Computers for Seniors I: The Basic Program

Computer Essentials: On Demand; 
(Quiet Study Room)

 

Right out of the box basics.  Learn how to start the computer and use the mouse and keyboard to becoming familiar with its operation. Learn how to shut down the computer properly and about the standard functions found on most computers.

You can become more comfortable with the computer once you have these basics to get started. (1 hour on week 1)

 

Email Essentials: On Demand; 
(Quiet Study Room)

Electronic mail is the easy way to communicate with friends and family at a distance. You'll learn how to set up your e-mail to send and receive messages and some of the important information about e-mail attachments and etiquette. (1 hour on week 2)

 

Internet Essentials:  On Demand; 
(Quiet Study Room)

The Internet has volumes of information for everyone. This seminar will familiarize you with the basics of how to find the information you want on the Internet easily and quickly. As well, you will learn where to find learning opportunities on the Internet.

(1 hour on week 3)

"Hands-on": On Demand 
(Parrott Internet Centre)

 

 

 

 

 

This session would be for the E-mail and Internet essentials where the clients would set-up actual e-mail addresses and test them. The Internet session would be to understand searching techniques and then search for various websites of interest to seniors as requested during the seminars. (2 hours on week 4)

 

2.  Computers For Seniors II: The Next Steps
Pre-requisite: Computers for Seniors I: The Basic Program or familiarity with email, using Google search engine, as well as email access and use. 

"Getting Social on the Internet": On Demand 

Building on the skills learned from Computers for Seniors I, you will learn what social media is, what ways can be used to communicate with others and how to access various websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+. (1 hour on week 1)

"Using Skype to Talk": On Demand  

Skype is another way to communicate with friends and family at a distance.  You'll learn how to set up your Skype to make free long distance calls to friends and family living elsewhere and some of the important concepts in using this powerful and free program.  (1 hour on week 2)

"Entertain Us": On Demand 

 

The internet has volumes of media for everyone.  This seminar will familiarize you with the basics of how to find reputable entertainment and media on the Internet.  Focusing on sites such as YouTube, MySpace and Facebook, discussion about the legal issues of access, downloading and sharing of media will be examined. (1 hour on week 3)

"Smile for the Camera": On Demand 

Almost everyone has a digital device for taking pictures whether it's a cell phone, smart phone, camera or tablet.  The question is, "How can I get those on my computer and what can I do with them?"  This session will examine the basics of taking pictures from camera to computer and look at some editing programs to enhance your images.  We will also look at sites to make your pictures available to family and friends.  (1 hour on week 4)

3 & 4.  On demand iPad Courses

3.  iPad - Out of the Box.  


A new piece of technology needs to be set-up properly so that you are able to efficiently use it.  This session requires learners to bring their iPad to class and we will go through the steps to register your product, set-up email and navigate basics on the iPad.

2  - 1 hour sessions - Minimum 8 Students

4.  iPad - Getting friendly

Once you've registered, setup email and been using your iPad, you are ready to move forward and learn ways to maximize battery life, troubleshoot basic issues, and interact more with friends and family.  This course requires participants to bring their iPad tablet. 

2  - 1 hour sessions - Minimum 8 students

5.  Samsung Tablets - Using

Once you've registered, setup email and been using your Samsung, you are ready to move forward and learn ways to maximize battery life, troubleshoot basic issues, and interact more with friends and family.  This course requires participants to bring their Samsung tablet. 

2  - 1 hour sessions - Minimum 8 students

6.  Files & Folders 4 Fun

Learn how to get all of your digital files, pictures, music and movies organized on your computer.  Remember where these things are and how to find them.

1 - 1 hour session - Minimum 8 students

7.  Buying and Selling Online

Whether you are selling yard sale items locally on Kijiji or auctioning them worldwide, this course will teach you how to do it safely and easily.

1 - 1 hour session - Minimum of 8 students
