Quinte West Public Library cards are free to all who live or own property in Quinte West and Belleville. Remember that each member of the family can get a library card! Children up to the age of 13 should apply for  a children's card and a parent/guardian must agree to be responsible for library material borrowed on their children's card.

 Quinte West Public Library Privacy Statement

Quinte West Public Library (QWPL) is committed to protecting the privacy of our members and all patrons who visit our library or website.  We are governed by the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Public Libraries Act.  Information is collected under the authority of the Public Libraries Act for the administration of library operations.

Personal information collected for library membership is used to record who has borrowed library materials, to contact members for overdue items and fines and to inform members about items that have been put on hold for them.  Membership at the QWPL includes membership in the Hastinet Library Cooperative and we will only share your personal information with the member library (Belleville Public Library) for similar purposes.  This may include information received from you such as your name, address and other contact information, information about your transactions with us such as library barcode number, personal identification number (PIN), material currently on loan, material recently on loan, outstanding fines and fees.

QWPL uses the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide library services
  • To assist us in the collection of outstanding items and accounts
  • To respond to inquiries about library services
  • To solicit support for library programs and services
  • To meet legal requirements

You have a right to request access to this information at any time and to request amendments to your personal information to ensure its accuracy and completeness.  To make a request for access to your personal information we have collected or to request an amendment please contact the Circulation Department.

Should you have any questions on the personal information collected, please contact the Chief Executive Officer of the library.


Quinte West Public Library Board Circulation Policy for Children
Please be aware that the QWPL board's approved Circulation Policy permits children access to all material and material formats in our system.  If you wish to restrict your child's access to library materials, you should make your postition known to your child and/or accompany them to the library to supervise their selections.  The library cannot withhold circulating materials from any user regardless of age, or deny them access to the internet.  By checking the box on the Juvenile Online Registration Form YOU are assuming full responsibility for the choice, use and return of all material borrowed and for charges on items that are overdue, lost or damaged on your child's card.  Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring that their child will obey the rules and regulation of the QWPL.

 Membership Renewal:

If you are a Quinte West Public Library member and your card has expired or is about to expire please, email the library to have your membership renewed.
Please include the following information in your email:
Name, Card Number and your current address and phone number.

Acceptable identification includes but is not limited to:

Adult (18+ years of age)

  • Driver's Licence
  • Mortgage, rental or lease agreement
  •  Pay stub or Direct Deposit stub
  • Ontario Motor Vehicle Permit
  • Utility Bill
  • Bank statement/ Personal cheque

Youth (13-17 years of age)

  • Driver's License
  • Report card with address
  • Student card Pay stub or Direct Deposit stub

Child (birth - 12 years of age)

  • Parent's identification and proof of address

Non Resident Memberships Free of Charge:
The Quinte West Public Library also offers free memberships to teachers who teach in Quinte West but reside outside of the municipality, to those who work for the Department of National Defence but reside outside of the municipality and to those who work for the City of Quinte West but reside outside of the municipality.  Please come to the library in person to sign up for a library card if you are in this category.

Non-Resident Memberships with Charge:
There is an annual membership fee of $40.00 per person per year or $22.00 for six month's memberships for non-residents of Quinte West or Belleville.
